Web 2.0 is the term that describes the second generation of the World Wide Web. Unlike the original Web which is termed as static because it can be accessed in its linear design, but cannot be manipulated with editing, embedding, etc. However, Web 2.0 has facility for editing and adding Widgets; therefore, Web 2.0 is known as the interactive Internet. It is designed in an organized and categorized manner; that is, Web 2.0 separates its form (structure) from content (information). This separation of structure from information allows its users to edit and change content (information). However, its form cannot be changed. Therefore, by design, Web 2.0 tools makes it possible for Internet users to communicate, collaborate, and work together. This facilitates student engagement in the learning activity as well as supporting creativity, innovation, knowledge of other cultures as well as relationship building. The downside for Web 2.0, is that it is not as powerful as the original earlier version of the Internet. The upside of Web 2.0 is its interactive software makes it possible for classrooms on different continents to work together on a single project using software such as Skype. Web 2.0 software, known as tools, makes video conferencing either synchronously or asynchronously possible. Consequently, students are more engaged in learning activities which contributes to higher levels of learning on Bloom's Taxonomy of intellectual skills. Web 2.0 allows people to interact with eachother on a higher level, not just using the world wide web for data and research. It allows for a commmunity of people to interact and share presentations, videos and specific information. We can learn from different cultures of people. The people can communicate and collaborate with each other by using interactive web sites and video streaming. Including:podcasts, wikis, skype, Youtube, itunes and blogging. Cornelia Capstick
Web 2.0 is the same internet that we have been using since it was created. Meaning that Web 2.0 is not a new world wide web, it is an upgrade or extension to the world wide web. So the first internet would have been called Web 1.0 right? But Web 2.0 is applications that are created to make browing the interntet easier for the user. If someone uses google and youtube alot, someone could create an application online that would allow it easier to access both of those websites. Also Web 2.0 allows for the everyday user to be able to interact with the world through blogging and social media. One added benefit to the web 2.0 is that someone can write their thoughts or opinions at the bottom of a public website which is known as blogging. -Justin Williams-

Unlike the the world wide web of the past, web 2.0 allows people to have the opportunity to collaborate and interact amongst each other in more of a social media or online community type atmosphere. In todays Web 2.0, users are now able to share their information and findings with other users in communities such as blogs, wikis, and forums. With these new technological advancements, children, teens, and adults alike are able to easily use web 2.0 type techniques to learn from and communicate information with others. -Tara McDaid
Using today’s internet is not like using the internet when I was growing up. When most people (including myself) hear the word Web 2.0, they think that it is a new type of internet. However, is not a new internet. The internet has not changed. What has changed is the way people are using the internet. Rather than using the internet to conduct research or check email, many people are using the internet to create presentations, voice an opinion, share their thoughts and ideas, etc. Being able to respond and react to something on the internet is web 2.0. Many people are doing this through wiki’s, blogs, podcasts, etc. It is interesting to see how the internet has changed since I was younger and it will be even more interesting to see how it is going to evolve over time as I get older. -Sean Nichols

In today's classrooms teacher's are always trying to find new ways to teach material that can be exciting and engaging to students. With tools such as prezi, wiki, and skype students can interact with each other and with students around the world. Web 2.0 focuses on the most impressive of the internet's features: adaptation, and communication. It allows users to engage and contribute. It allows for reactions and collaborative improvement. It transforms the internet from a lecture to a discussion, from a cd to a concert, from a single dimension, to an eclectic juggernaut. Blogs, comments, updates, quests, conferences now have the opportunity to mirror real life for its multi-dimensional data applications. The internet is not something stagnant like a book. It cannot become outdated or defunct. The internet constantly releases new editions of itself in real time with various perspectives, and therefore it is most suitable for information and communication in a fast-paced world. VINCE

Web 2.0 in my opinion is a more detailed version of how the internet can be used. Before the term "Web 2.0" I only used the internet to search for things, google was the popular search engine then. Now with all the updated tools the internet is now better accessible and gives us the opportunity to better voice our opinions and share things with people near and far.
